On “Death Boats,” Young Egyptians Risk Their Lives

Refugees Platform in Egypt noted that among those missing after the boat sank were 13 people from the village of Al-Naamna in Sharqia Governorate in the Nile Delta, all male and aged between 13 and 35, including nine children under 18. Authorities say 43 Egyptians survived the sinking, but the platform received dozens of calls from victims’ families seeking any information about them. Nour Khalil, the platform’s executive director, said more than 40 families from two villages in Sharqia asked for help.
